November 1, 1797. Stock certificate for one share in the Bank of Delaware. Signed by John Hayes as cashier. Organized on June 1, 1795, the bank received its charter on February 9, 1796 marking it to be the first chartered bank in the state. Under the National Banking Act of 1865 it received a national charter and was renamed the National Bank of Delaware. Uncancelled and in excellent condition.
