Captain Edward Hutchinson (1678-1752) was a merchant from Boston, Massachusetts.  He served as the treasurer of Harvard College from 1721-1752 . He served on the Massachusetts Council variously from 1725-1740 and was a judge of the Suffolk Court of Common Pleas. He later was appointed as Chief Justice. According to one biographer, Hutchinson was "one of the most prominent and influential men" in Boston for nearly forty years. Schutz, Legislators of the Massachusetts General Court.
