Maritime Broadside. Directions For Sailing by Cape-Cod Light-House. Boston Marine Society. Approved November 7, 1797. Built in 1797, the Cape Cod lighthouse was the first lighthouse to house a flashing light in the United States. A very scarce broadside with directions for sailing to said lighthouse printed in Boston in 1797. It contains extremely accurate directions given the available technologies of the time; its estimates of 150 foot cliffs are only ten feet off the actual height of 160 feet. With thousands of ships passing through the area monthly throughout the first half of the nineteenth century, this broadside was more a necessity than a utility. A choice early Light-House related item. Some light paper loss at margins. Overall Fine.
