HOWE, JULIA WARD (1819-1910). An American reformer and author, Howe is best remembered for “The Battle Hymn of the Republic”. She helped her husband edit an abolitionist newspaper and after the Civil War, she focused her energies on the suffragette movement and other women’s issues. ALS. 2 pages on small note paper. 3 1/2" x 4 1/2". Likely to Caroline Ticknor who's family owned the Ticknor and Fields publishing house responsible for printing the works of many important literary figures...“My dear Miss Ticknor, I will certainly do best to attend the meeting of the Author’s club at your house on May 4th. I have misplaced my notice card, but suppose that the meeting will be from four to six o’clock, as usual. So, ___ for me in good time, so that I may make you “at his beginning of times. Yours sincerely, Julia Ward Howe.” In this letter Howe tells Miss Ticknor that she will try her best to attend an Author’s Club meeting at Ticknor’s house. Excellent condition.
