1876, New York. Stock certificate for 264 shares. Brown/Black. Issued to and signed on stub and verso by Lorenzo de Medici Sweat (1818 - 1898).  Lawyer and politician from Maine. After holding a series of positions in Portland, Maine, Sweat was elected to serve as a member of the State Senate in 1862 and served on the 38th Congress from 1863-65. Sweat continued his political career following the Civil War as he was a delegate in the Union National Convention, the Democratic National Convention, and served as a member of the Democratic National Committee. His mansion in the city of Portland, Maine was turned into the Portland Museum of Art at the request of Sweat’s wife.Punch cancellations not affecting his signatures. Very Fine.
