JOSEPH PANCOAST (1805 - 1882). Renowned American surgeon. He published A Treatise on Operative Surgery in 1844. He was responsible for numerous advancements in surgery and lectured extensively on anatomy and surgery. Pancoast served as Chairman of the Department of Anatomy at Jefferson Medical College from 1841 - 1874.
