An attractive autograph letter signed by noted American stage and silent film actor William Farnum (1876–1953), written on illustrated Chicago Opera House theatrical stationery promoting the engagement of Dustin & William Farnum in The Littlest Rebel, under the management of A. H. Woods. Penned in black ink and addressed to “Miss Oldham,” the brief but warm letter thanks the recipient for her thoughtful note regarding the “dear Rebel Flag,” almost certainly referring to a theatrical or presentation memento associated with The Littlest Rebel, the enormously popular Civil War melodrama in which Farnum starred. Farnum expresses appreciation for the recipient’s praise of his play and remarks sentimentally that the “Reb. Flag” will always hold a cherished place in his home. The ornate printed letterhead features contemporary newspaper praise for the production, including endorsements from the Chicago Tribune, Record-Herald, and other major publications, making the piece especially appealing as a display item for theater and silent film collectors. A charming theatrical autograph from one of the leading dramatic actors of the early twentieth century. Condition very good, with mailing folds, light toning, and minor edge wear.

Friday 7 My dear Miss Oldham: Cant tell you how much I appreciate your charming note & the dear “Rebel” flag. I shall treasure it always. I am indeed glad you liked our play — I am crazy about it myself. The Reb. Flag will have a choice spot in my home at Sag Harbor Long Island, & the keen interest that prompted you to send it will always be a delight to gratefully yours. William Farnum
